Oliver Carter — Writer, Analyst, NASCAR Obsessive

A Notebook in One Hand, a Stopwatch in the Other

Last spring, I spent a Sunday afternoon rewatching three hours of race footage just to verify a hunch about mid-race pit strategy timing. That is, more or less, how my brain works. I write things down, I test the logic, and then I write them down again — better this time.

Motorsports rewards that kind of obsessive attention. The sport moves fast, the data is rich, and the gap between casual observation and real understanding is wider than most people expect. I sit comfortably in that gap, translating what the numbers and patterns actually mean into language that clicks for readers whether they caught their first race last month or have been tracking standings since before I was born.

Here is what you can expect from my work on Sledgehammerblog:

  • Analysis grounded in what actually happened on track, not just the headline narrative
  • Plain explanations of technical and strategic concepts without dumbing them down
  • Honest takes that hold up under scrutiny
  • Occasional deep dives when a trend is too interesting to leave at the surface

Let's Talk Racing
