Alan, thank you for your very kind words. I believe that everything changes and this too shall change. Corrections will be made. The people involved in NASCAR are just and righteous in their determination to keep the sport viable and significant in a world that has dramatically shifted. The disappearance of local motorsports beat writers was the loss of an essential connection between the fans across the country and the sport. While the large news organizations do a wonderful job of coverage, it isn’t and never will be enough. The problem is simple. It’s called RESPECT. The sport suffers from a lack of it. Who’s to blame?

Joan, I hope your comment about my becoming extinct means that I’m the last of a dying breed. I’ve always found that when you wipe away the dirt, you can read the gauges on the dashboard a whole lot better.

Bob, you are the center of the no-BS zone, you have been for years and I have enjoyed your perspective for years and the insider news you always provided. The type of news that Nascar always wants to surpress, but runs rampant in the garage, as you and I know.

You are correct about what Nascar is trying to do and the whole sport suffers because of it.

Maybe Roush just isn’t getting the dollars that other teams are getting form their sponsors? People always said Roush devalued sponsorships just to get the sponsors away from other teams. Perhaps that finally caught up to him?

Then you also have to think that these teams are all working on budgets that are pre-economy bust. This can’t last forever and perhaps Roush is just the first one to realize it? The bubble has to burst sooner rather then later. Only so many companies out there that can afford it and even those businesses are tightening their wallets. Ex: Home Depot

I have found that it all becomes clearer when the media pass for the top-tier press organizations is no longer on the line. Have seen it over and over.

You’re right, Kyle is the only one not afraid to go against the good ol’ boy network that is NASCAR media coverage.
At least the race broadcasters have improved a bit, twenty years ago they wouldn’t even say somebody wrecked a guy. They just called it “contact”.
It may be too harsh a word, but it’s a bit incestuous. The people with the mic’s seem more concerned with currying favor with those they interview. I don’t know how that cycle can be broken.

I enjoy the fact that NASCAR writers/radio/TV guys never suggest that driver/crew chief should be fired for poor performance. If reporters in other sports did that, they would be fired.

Btw – if you are a reporter and want to sell papers, driver rating, or get clicks, state that Stenhouse and Bayne aren’t top talent. State that Reagan Smith and Hormish are better talents.
